It stuck because I hate working with other people. Every sort of group effort—hate it. Team sports, assisted living, cooperative games, even that statue where all those military guys are collectively raising that flag in the mud. People stick their nose into things and make things slower and less efficient. I’d rather just do it myself. Then go watch some individual sports like tennis or boxing. Once I watch these individual sports, perhaps I’ll see the corner man, or the coach, or the sponsors who bought all their clothes and tigers, or their promoter, and—wait a minute. . . 

This makes me think of another quote. “In union there’s strength” which many believe evolved into, “If you want to get somewhere fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” 

It hurts to ask for help. At least for me. A person—like many in the community—who grew up having to be self-sufficient. It feels like a failure to reach out to someone when I need help. But it doesn’t have to. Everyone needs help sometimes. Besides, helping feels good. Why deny people that good feeling?

Today, I’m going to ask for help. I hope, if you need it, you will too.
